7 steps to avoid digital scams on the Internet

In recent times, online transactions have increased and, therefore, fraud and digital scams. From selling something for a second-hand website or application and the money never arrives or even looking for a job and being contacted by a fake agency that promises us the job of our dreams, but to which we must pay an amount to carry out the paperwork ...

And these are the most classic, but in an increasingly digitized world, the bad guys are also finding increasingly sophisticated ways to carry out fraud.

Everyone can try to take care of themselves but it is very difficult not to fall, as it is also very difficult to stay on the sidelines of the digital world. Therefore, our way of acting must be the same as in the real world and take the same care with everything.

At VITRIKO we offer cybersecurity audits for companies and individuals, do not hesitate to contact us .

7 steps to keep our money safe on the Internet and avoid digital fraud.

·         Avoid sharing one-time passwords (OTP) or scanning unknown QR codes. One of the easiest way to lose our money is by sharing OTP with strangers or by scanning QR codes that are not verified. Both QRs and OTPs should be used to give money and never to receive money.

·         Do not enter unknown links. Before entering a link, we must check where it leads us, putting the mouse on it we will know if it takes us to the original site or not. Although sometimes this is not enough. Hackers can send youu a fake email with the appearance of one of the bank and we confidently click without knowledge. You always have to check the sender and see that it is the official email to avoid digital fraud.

·         Do not save the card data. Many people have a bad habit of storing card data in different places and applications. This is a practice that we must avoid since we are thus being more vulnerable to any digital attack or scam. We may also have data stored on these sites such as the telephone number, the address ... Imagine if someone could have access to all that data together!

·         Protect your SIM card. Online banking is the order of the day and access from your smartphone is the most normal thing in the world, so protecting your SIM card is very important. In less than half an hour they could clone your SIM card and with it they could receive the bank's confirmation SMS for any transaction.

·         Beware of "contactless" payments We must be careful with “contactless” payments since they do not need a verification PIN and if we lose the card or it is stolen we could have problems. In addition, lately the banks have increased the payment limit without PIN, which also increases the risk.

·         All data is important. Not only financial data is important, we must protect any personal data that may be misused. We must avoid sharing personal information on networks and other public websites.

·         To the minimum fright. We must contact the bank immediately if we are the victim of digital fraud or scam. Although this does not mean that the bank will return the money immediately. Liability depends on where the digital fraud occurred. The bank is responsible for the fraudulent use of the card or if it has been cloned in its ATM. However, the client is responsible if the digital scam was produced by having shared OTP passwords, PINs or any data that they access.
